#ThankfullyReading Wrap-Up

This was the last day of my long weekend, and I have to say, it was just as relaxing as the last three days. I got a lot of reading done; at the time of writing this, I have read another 200 pages of Duma Key, and I am loving it. This just might become one of my favorite SK books, and it will definitely be getting its own post here on Froodian Slip at some point. I need to finish it and collect my thoughts before that happens, though.

It was really nice to join other bloggers this weekend and participate in Thankfully Reading Weekend, hosted by Jenn’s Bookshelves. Joining in Deb’s (Readerbuzz) book bingo was also a blast. It was nice to get back into the blogging world and catch up with people–especially Bryan of Still An Unfinished Person, who I haven’t talked to this much in a long time–and to see what everyone has been up to and what blogger events are coming up.

One of the events that Bryan brought to my attention is the 2019 #AMonthofFaves being hosted by Girlxoxo and Traveling with T. Every other day, starting December 2, they have a different topic for bloggers to write about. I don’t know that I’ll be able to write posts for all of them, but I am going to give it my best shot. Participating in #ThankfullyReading this weekend kind of gave me my writing groove back, and I’ve really been enjoying it. And looking over the #AMonthofFaves topics, I know I have things to say. Heh.

And while this four-day weekend didn’t go exactly as planned, it was still very nice and I have a lot of things to be thankful for. I’m thankful that even though my daughter had to stay on campus, she had friends who were also staying and she had a nice break anyway. I’m thankful that my husband has been feeling well enough the past few days to be out of bed, and that he felt well enough to watch some TV with me and enjoy a good movie with me. I’m thankful for my friend Katie, who we were supposed to spend Thanksgiving day with, who brought us leftovers of her delicious food when it became apparent that we wouldn’t be eating dinner with her family after all. And I’m thankful that I got to spend four days doing basically nothing but reading for pleasure and taking the occasional nap.

I hope everyone had a nice weekend, whether or not you celebrate this problematic (in many ways) holiday, and I look forward to being more involved in the blogging community again.

#ThankfullyReading, Day 3

Today was my third day of Thankfully Reading Weekend, and it was great. I read a little less than yesterday (had some other things come up), but I was still able to finish Blaze by Richard Backman, as well as get 125 pages into Duma Key by Stephen King. I also read more of the fifth book in the Wheel of Time series, The Fires of Heaven, by Robert Jordan–I did that before I fell asleep last night (which means I also got to mark another square off on my bingo card). As far as the bingo card goes, I was actually able to mark off three more squares: read more than one book, read under the covers, and read for a total of 8 hours.

On the screen front, the movie we watched last night–Ready or Not–was fantastic. One of the best movies I watched all year. It was HILARIOUS…and gross, in the best possible ways.

If you are into horror movies and seriously dark humor, you will love this. I laughed so much.

Now I’m off to watch some Brooklyn Nine-Nine, which is also hilarious and has a great cast.

I can’t believe tomorrow is Sunday already, but I’m looking forward to another lazy day. Three cheers for four-day weekends!

#ThankfullyReading, Day 2

Technically, this is day three of Thankfully Reading Weekend, but it’s my day two. I got a TON of reading done today. I read an article for school, finished reading With the Fire on High by Elizabeth Acevedo, and I got about halfway through Blaze by Richard Bachman. I would have read more, but Eric is finally feeling well enough for us to catch up on some TV together, so we watched a bit of the new season of Always Sunny. Now we’re going to watch the movie Ready or Not, then go to bed.

My bingo card is shaping up nicely, too! I have a BINGO! Let’s be honest, I’m not going to finish this bingo card—I live in the northeast, so I definitely won’t be reading outside at all this weekend. In fact, we just got a winter storm warning today, so…yeah. I wouldn’t have been reading outside even without freezing rain. It’s cold. Heh. I also won’t be eating any healthy snacks—chips and goldfish crackers all the way, baby! Hahaha! But this is what my bingo card looks like so far…

I read most of the day, and I definitely read for more than an hour at a time, so that takes care of the middle square on the top row. I commented on my friend Bryan’s blog (and will be commenting on more blogs tomorrow). I read over 400 pages today, so that takes care of two squares. I read until 7pm, and it gets dark at 5pm here now (UGH). With the Fire on High included at least three recipes. I read twice today, for about three hours before my nap, and then for a little over two hours after my nap. I read that psych article for school, and I drank a Pepsi, which was DELICIOUS. [high five]

I’ll be reading in bed before I fall asleep tonight, too, so that will be another square taken care of! I’ll mark that one off tomorrow.

Good night, everyone! Hope everyone is having a great Thankfully Reading Weekend!

I’m #ThankfullyReading!

I haven’t been able to join something like this in so long! Every time a readathon or readalong comes up, I always have a bunch of school work to do, or something going on for my job, or other things I have to get done. Not this time! Jenn at Jenn’s Bookshelves hosts Thankfully Reading Weekend every year (I’m pretty sure), and this might be the first year I’ve been able to join. I didn’t sign up officially on the start date because I thought my daughter would be home from college and we’d be spending time with her, but then Eric got the flu (and yes, he had his flu shot back in October), so she decided to stay at school with some friends rather than risk getting sick right before finals week. The vast majority of my school work is done for the week, so here I am!

I’ve been reading since yesterday morning–I finished the fourth book in the Wheel of Time series (The Shadow Rising) by Robert Jordan, and started the fifth book. I’m also reading With the Fire on High by Elizabeth Acevedo. I’m sure I’ll finish that one today before I take a nap, and then I’m not sure what I’ll start reading next.

In connection with #ThankfullyReading, Deb at Readerbuzz is hosting a Thankfully Reading BINGO contest, and it looks like a lot of fun.

I will be able to cross off a few of those boxes before the end of today–With the Fire on High just happens to be about a girl who loves to cook, and there are recipes added throughout the book. Plus, I have one more psychology article to read for school, so that will be my “read something that’s not a book.”

Time to go do some reading! Have fun, everyone!
